About the Show
Ice Road Truckers
Starting in October 2006, Original Productions (The Deadliest Catch, Monster Garage) started pre-production on an original series highlighting Tli Cho Landtran and six drivers that transported loads across the 2007 winter road. Production of the show wrapped up at the end of the ice road season in April of 2007.
Shot in High-Definition Video, the series highlights the experiences of six drivers. Filming begins when the drivers leave home, and continues after they arrive in Yellowknife to start moving the big loads across the winter road.
It's Mother Nature versus machine as the cameras capture the extreme cold weather and the havoc it wreaks on the trucks as drivers strain to meet their "tee times" from dispatch.
The film crew used over 50 cameras and four separate film crews to capture what makes the winter road such a feat of engineering, and a memorable experience for all who have seen it. The show explores the ice road from the perspective of experienced drivers, and also takes a look at several "rookie" drivers as they take their first harrowing trips across the ice. Cameras are in the trucks, in helicopters, and underwater to show the ice road from all perspectives.
